Britfield & The Lost Crown by C. R. Stewart, is an action-packed masterpiece. It’s riddled with twists and turns and filled with interesting history and geography lessons. Britfield & The Lost Crown is part of an ongoing series, which, last I heard, is supposed to be a seven-book series. I really enjoyed this book and I liked the second one even better! The story is purely captivating. The Weatherly Orphanage is a terrible place to live. It’s not at all what any of the orphans deserve. Tom, a twelve-year-old boy, has lived at Weatherly for most of his life, surrounded by unfair treatment and many escape attempts. When he finds out his parents might still be alive, it becomes necessary to escape himself. But not without his friend Sarah. Together they plot their escape. But when they finally escape, will they be able to stay a safe distance away from the famous detective who’s trailing them, and the police officers who seem to be everywhere? Plus, there’s one mysterious word that might have something to do with Tom’s parents: Britfield. On the run from many things, they find themselves hopping from Oxford University to Windsor Castle and all through London and Canterbury. But with the help of professors and a college student, do they have a chance? Or will they end up back at Weatherly before their adventure even starts?
My Favorite Character: “Sarah for sure! She’s spunky and spirited, with just the right amount of temper! Readers of ‘The Penderwicks’ by Jeanne Birdsall may think of her as a ‘Skye’-type character.” —Millie J.
Parental Guidance: This book is recommended for ages 9 to 15 years old, but I would say more like 12+ years. There’s lots of gunfire in this one, high speed chases, things going boom, and there is rarely a chapter where Tom and Sarah aren’t in a sticky situation. Think of it as an action movie on paper.
