Alice's Farm

Alice’s Farm by Maryrose Wood is a great favorite of mine. It has a very unique storyline, and is super fun to read! (Which makes it a great read-aloud!) It is for both boys and girls, and is charming in every way. As the author says, “The trouble between rabbits and farmers goes way back, probably to the first garden there ever was.” And that right there is the beginning of an amazing book. Alice is a cottontail rabbit. Carl is a human boy. Who do you think is smarter? The boy, right? But no…Alice is the smartest rabbit in literature, I think. The Harvey family—Brad, Sally, Carl, Marie, and the dog Foxy—moves from the city, where it is junk food heaven, to the country, where the healthy food rules. Poor Carl, (son of Brad and Sally.) is devastated that he can’t eat fast food anymore, and the day after they move in, real estate business owners come and give them a surprising welcome; they offer to buy the property from them for double what they bought it! The answer is no, but trouble keeps coming to the Harveys, and they realize that farming is harder than they thought. Thankfully Farmer Janis is there to help them, and someone else… Alice.
