Anne of the Island

Anne of the Island by L. M. Montgomery is possibly the most romantic Anne book. It is one of my favorites!! Anne is finally going to Redmond College—alongside several childhood chums Gilbert Blythe, Priscilla Grant, and Charlie Sloane. The emotions she feels are bittersweet, she looks forward to the college years before her and, at the same time, dreads them. She suffers from the terrible illness of homesickness, but soon she is happy and herself again, and with the help of her new friends like Philippa Gordon and old friends like Priscilla Grant and Stella Maynard, she begins to feel at home. The girls don’t enjoy boarding houses and that dislike leads them to a decision to rent a house together. Soon Anne is happily living the college life at a wonderful little house called Patty’s Place. During her years at Redmond, Anne encounters several romantic and unromantic proposals, including one from the dashing Roy Gardner. Anne thinks he may be the man of her dreams, but her heart is not quite as certain as her imagination. As the story unfolds, Anne begins to question whether her dreams of romance match what she truly wants in life. But when a serious event shakes Anne’s world, she is forced to look honestly at her own heart. This book is a wonderful read, and will surely be a well-loved book in the series.
