The Vanderbeekers Make A Wish by Karina Yan Glaser is fifth book in the series, as well as my third favorite!! This is a heartwarming and charming book! It’s summer! Which should mean lots of fun! Right? Wrong. The Vanderbeekers are having a very hard time enjoying their summer. Oliver had planned on a camping trip with Papa, but at the last minute Papa has to fly to Indiana to be with a friend whose mom just passed away. Not only is he canceling the camping trip with Oliver, but his fortieth birthday party might have to be canceled too! As if the day could get any worse, after their papa leaves for the airport, and their mama leaves for work, their distant grandparents show up unexcitingly on their doorstep. Ugh! Summer is not off to a very good start! The Vanderbeeker kids are now tasked with entertaining and spending time with their grandparents. At least Aunt Penny’s there too. But meanwhile, they are trying to figure out the best present for Papa, which might mean that they have to find out more about Papa’s dad. This all leads them on another great adventure.
