The Penderwicks at Point Mouette

The Penderwicks at Point Mouette by Jeanne Birdsall is the third book in the Penderwick series. I think of this as one of my very favorites, for it is a truly magical book. The storyline is as captivating as the Penderwick storylines always are. The Penderwicks are all splitting up for summer vacation, newlywed Mr. Penderwick and Iantha, plus Ben are going to England for conferences and a honeymoon. Rosalind is going to New Jersey with her friend Anna. Which is going to make things much more complicated for the other three sisters, and Aunt Claire, who are going to Point Mouette, Maine. The trip is most dreaded by Skye, who is the OAP (Oldest Available Penderwick) and therefore is in charge of her two younger sisters, (With a little help and adult supervision from Aunt Claire.) but nevertheless, the sisters are determined to have a good time, even though the dreaded Mrs. T-D is refusing to let Jeffery go with them! The unfairness of it all is truly sickening. The Maine vacation starts out very chaotic, and the rest of the trip is no exception. It includes rescuing a dog named Hoover, and meeting Alec, (Hoover’s owner) but is there more to him than they know? Who does he remind them of? Then there’s a call from Mrs. T-D, does it mean she’s changed her mind about Jeffery? The sisters meet Dominic Orne, who aggravates Skye to no end and captures Jane’s heart, along with his sister. Many unexpected events take place, and the Penderwicks find themselves discovering something that may change everything. I hope you will love this wonderful, adventurous, humorous book, as much as I do.
