The Penderwicks at Last

The Penderwicks at Last by Jeanne Birdsall, is a beautiful conclusion to the Penderwick series. The only thing about this book that I don’t like… is that it is the last. With a classic Penderwick storyline full of mishaps, adventures, charm, and the Penderwicks family bond (which is as strong as ever), this book takes its place perfectly next to all the others. The storyline seems simple enough. Rosalind, the oldest Penderwick sister, is getting married… at Arundel! Truly, noone can think of a better place, especially Lydia, who is thrilled to finally visit the place she has heard so much about ever since she was little. It’s wonderful enough just to see it, but to stay there all the way up until the wedding? Magical. Just magical. And surely a wedding can’t be that hard to put on, can it? Soon it becomes apparent that weddings aren’t a piece of wedding cake. With several surprises, including dogs, lots of dogs, dances up and down and all around the estate, searches for a good motto, changes of wedding plans, a wedding gift, goodbyes, new friends, and an old enemy, the Penderwicks have another good adventure ahead of them. I read this book and loved it just as much as I do all the Penderwick books. But for all Penderwick lovers, this book will be bittersweet, as it is the last. I hope you enjoy this excellent book as much as I did.
