The Blossoming Summer by Anna Rose Johnson is yet another beautiful literary piece of art by this extremely talented author! The wonderful storyline of family, love, healing, and home is gripping and filled with longing for belonging. Rosemary Rivers is tired of being tossed here and there, helter-skelter, on the waves of the war. Her family is separated, and has been for three years! But when the war worsens, her parents decide to evacuate and flee to America. This is not only a big change because she lives in England, but also because her family no longer feels like her family! It’s as if she must work to get to know them again, after years of separation. The idea of America, though, is “brilliant.” Could America be her the haven she always dreamed of? There’s a big problem, though. They are staying with her Grandmother Charlotte in the big house, where Father grew up. The children have never met their Grandmother, and when they get there, they realize that their Father and Grandmother don’t get along. And neither do Rosemary and Corinne (her cousin.) The only person she gets along with is the boy who helps with the big garden: Jacob. And that is an upside, the garden, she loves gardens, and hopes to spend as much time as possible there. But when an opportunity knocks to help everyone get along, can she pull it off? Is there a way to make Paradise become reality? Alongside many other things such as night excursions in the garden, brick fishing, clothes shopping, attic scavenging, stargazing, and a startling and startling family secret, Rosemary finds herself fighting for her family and her “Paradise”.
