Pippi Longstocking
by Astrid Lindgren
Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren was originally a Swedish book, and later translated to other languages. How lucky we are to be introduced to Pippi’s world, one that is pure genius! Pippi is Tommy and his sister Annika’s new neighbor. But she’s not your typical neighbor. Though she’s only nine years old, she doesn’t have any parents around telling her what to do! She has a horse that lives on her front porch, a pet monkey named Mr. Nilsson, and “ghosts” in the attic. And the things she does are completely unbelievable! From becoming a thing finder, playing tag with policemen, using two feet and two scrubbing brushes to clean the floor, entertaining two burglars, and rescuing a boy from a burning building. As you can see, things are never boring when you’re with Pippi. This book is a timeless classic from the best of children’s literature. I give you my word that this book will become a huge favorite in your house!
My Favorite Character: “Absolutely, no doubt about it: Pippi! As soon as you read the first few paragraphs, you will fall in love with her!” —Millie J.
