The Penderwicks on Gardam Street

The Penderwicks on Gardam Street by Jeanne Birdsall is the second book in the Penderwicks series, and in my opinion, is particularly funny. The storyline its self is humorous: The Penderwick sisters (especially Rosalind) are welcoming fall with open arms, after an extremely wonderful summer. But things don’t always go as planned when it comes to the Penderwicks… First, Aunt Claire comes to visit, which is wonderful, but a blue letter comes with her, and the blue letter is at fault for Aunt Claire telling Mr. Penderwick that he should start dating again. And no one, especially Rosalind and Mr. Penderwick, likes that idea. So the girls do the thing they do best: make a plan. The Save-Daddy Plan is a hilarious, yet brilliant plan, which is centered around finding horrifyingly terrible dates for Mr. Penderwick. But dating isn’t the only thing going on. There are also several games of soccer, a homework switch-a-roo that gets Skye and Jane into major trouble, a trip to Boston to see Jeffrey, a new neighbor and her son, a Halloween catastrophe, and several Bug man sightings. This book is such a captivating sequel, that you’ll find yourself having a very difficult time deciding if you like the first book or the second book better. This book holds many adventures, and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.
