Jo's Boys

Jo’s Boys by Louisa May Alcott is a truly lovely sequel to Little Men. Though I love Little Men more, I think that Jo’s Boys complements it quite well. This book brings us up to date with the boys and girls of Plumfield, about ten years after the storyline of the earlier book, Little Men. Each character faces difficulties of their own. For Dan, it’s finding his way, back yet again to the straight and narrow path, after working on ranches, and making serious mistakes, he decides that this time he truly needs to change. Nat alsogoes through a rather dark valley, full of cheating, debt, and dishonesty, but he soon finds himself in the meadow on the other side. Tommy Bangs pursues medical studies, at first, he doesn’t take it seriously, but in time he will. There is also an accidental proposal, a humorous scrape, very typical of Tommy Bangs. Demi continues to be very steady and dependable, and Daisy finds herself in want of a traditional position as a housewife and mother. Meanwhile Nan continues to pursue her medical interests, and refuses marriage. Her dream could not be anymore opposite of Daisy’s. All the boys and girls are loved and continually counseled by dear Mrs. Bhaer (Jo). This book is a delightful read, and you will surely enjoy it immensely.
